Meet Harris Hughey

For eight years, Harris Hughey has served as Justice of the Peace for Denton County
Precinct 4, guided by a steadfast commitment to fairness, dignity, and public service. He views the bench as both an honor and a responsibility-and as an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people and communities he serves.

Harris brought more than two decades of courtroom experience to the bench, having
served as both a prosecutor and a defense attorney. That experience gave him a broad understanding of the legal system and the varied perspectives of those who appear before the court. Today, he draws on that background to approach each case with careful attention, respect for every individual, and an unwavering commitment to applying the law fairly and impartially.

The Precinct 4 Justice Court handles a wide range of matters, including small-claims and civil disputes, evictions, truancy matters, and Class C criminal cases. As the communities within Precinct 4 have grown, so has the court's workload. Throughout that growth, Harris has remained focused on providing professional, efficient, and impartial service to everyone who comes before him.

In addition to serving as Justice of the Peace, Harris serves as Presiding Municipal Judge for the Town of Northlake and Associate Judge for the City of North Richland Hills. He also serves as Administrative Judge for the Denton County Justices of the Peace.

Harris is a charter member of the Champions Rotary Club and remains actively involved in his community.

He and his wife, Cheryl, have been married for more than 37 years. They have two sons, two daughters-in-law, and five grandchildren. Family, community, and public service continue to be central to Harris's life.
